Coyotes are a growing concern on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and in nearby cities. There have been many coyote sightings, both day and night, right here in Rollingwood, throughout the city of Rolling Hills Estates and the other cities on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, and even on the streets of nearby cities in the Los Angeles basin, such as Torrance and Lomita.

Please be aware.

Preventing human-coyote conflict in our neighborhood:

  • Feeding coyotes is prohibited and subject to penalty fines.

  • Do not leave small children or pets outside unattended.

  • Trim ground-level shrubbery to reduce hiding places.

  • Remove sources of water and fallen fruit from yard areas.

  • Keep trash and compost lids closed at all times.

  • Secure doggie doors and limit usage.

  • Discourage a coyote’s approach by “hazing” - yell loudly, wave your arms to make yourself large, stomp your feet, and throw projectiles at it.

  • Ask your neighbors to follow these precautions.

Remember:

  • NEVER run away from a coyote!

  • If the coyote doesn’t leave at first, increase the intensity of your hazing

  • Continue hazing until the coyote completely leaves the area.

  • Call 911 for emergencies/Report to City
